Plan your spaceHIGH-WIND HURRICANE-SCREEN OPTION
185 MPHSerious wind.
A specific system.
The selected MaxForce hurricane-screen system is tested and certified for a 185 mph wind zone, including Florida’s HVHZ. This rating applies to the approved hurricane assembly and installation—not every solar mesh or clear vinyl screen.
For Colorado, we verify the opening, anchors, supporting structure and site requirements. A wind-zone certification is not a deploy/retract operating speed.
THE DETAILS MATTER
Colorado wind.
Specific answers.
Are these the screens rated for 180 mph?
The current published hurricane-screen certification is 185 mph for the selected MaxForce system. Ordinary shade, insect and clear vinyl screens have different specifications. We identify the actual screen assembly and approved mounting details in your proposal.
How strong are the screens in wind?
Fenetex’s 2026 catalog reports testing of 14 × 14-foot One-Track shade screens with Twitchell fabric, and 14 × 14-foot clear screens, in winds above 100 mph without damage. This test evidence applies to those tested assemblies. It is not a universal installed rating or an instruction to deploy or retract screens at that speed.
Should I choose solar mesh or clear vinyl?
Choose solar mesh for glare control, daytime comfort and ventilation. Choose clear vinyl when reducing cold drafts and keeping a wide view are the priorities. We can discuss independent dual-screen layouts where the selected system and opening allow them. Mesh remains permeable; clear panels change airflow and the forces on the supporting structure.
Does a stronger screen mean the pergola is stronger?
The complete assembly must be assessed. Screen wind forces pass into tracks, mounting fasteners, posts and foundations. We coordinate the screen specification with the roof and structure design instead of treating it as a decorative add-on.
Can screens stay down in every storm?
Use the selected manufacturer’s instructions and operating limits. Sensors are an additional control, not a replacement for an operating plan. Snow, ice, debris and obstructions require attention before movement. Hurricane-screen certifications belong to specific products and approved installations; they do not transfer to ordinary mesh or clear screens.
Are the screens American made?
Fenetex describes its custom screens as made in the USA using imported parts. That is the wording we use: domestic custom manufacturing, with a global component supply chain.
